My Own Homemade Hummus

I'd say that hummus is one of the things I love the most. Yes, I'm serious. It tastes absolutely delicious, it's super quick to make, it's healthy and it makes (almost) any dish way better! If you're a hummus lover like me, or just want to try something new, then this is the perfect recipe:

450g chickpeas
1-2 tablespoons of tahini
2-3 cloves of garlick
juice from half a lemon
1-2 dl olive oil
salt & pepper to taste

Begin by rinsing the chickpeas and put them in the blender. Add your tahini, garlick and lemon juice and blend away. Add olive oil until you reach desired consistency. Finish it all off with some salt and pepper. Voila!

Vegan quorn salad

Some people use the argument that they don't want to go vegetarian or vegan because they don't want to eat salad all the time. While it's not true that salad is the only thing we eat, I'll have to admit that it's the perfect quick lunch or dinner! I love a good salad, it takes no time at all to prepare and you can enjoy it in your bed, in the kitchen or to go on the bus.
To get the perfect salad I try to get a varied mix of different coloured vegetables together with some kind of protein. The more texture and colour, the better! This is what I put in mine:

Salad of your choice (I used romain salad and spinach)
1 small yellow pepper
Cucumber
5-10 cocktail tomatoes
1 grilled Quorn filet
2-3 sundried tomatoes

I chopped it all up and put it in a bowl. I seasoned it with salt, pepper and some of the oil from the sundried tomatoes as a dressing. Yum! I usually go for chickpeas as the protein, but today i felt like some Quorn. The Quorn I use is vegan, but some of them include milk or egg, so make sure to check the ingredients if you're eating a vegan diet! You can of course change the Quorn into whatever you like the most!

Kat Von D Shade & Light Palette

Bloggers, instagrammers, pretty much everyone has been raving about the Kat Von D Shade and Light palette since it first hit stores. I'm the kind of person who thinks long and hard before buying new makeup products, especially the more pricier ones, but this one has finally found its place in my growing makeup collection. It offers a perfect mix of six contours and matte highlighters, perfect for anyone who likes to mix up their contour game once in a while. I'm obsessed with both the subtle and the dramatic kind of contour, which makes this palette my best friend.
Since I'm quite tanned at the moment I tend to go for the two darker contour shades to shape my face, and the middle highlight shade for my under eyes, cheekbones and forehead. I can see myself reaching for the lighter contour shade as I get paler (which I am pretty much all year round), but unfortunately "sombre" is the only shade in the otherwise perfect sextet that isn't vegan (contains no animal products/not tested on animals).
To get the perfect contour I prep my face with foundation, concealer and a translucent powder before applying the contour powders with my trusty Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. I finish off the face by applying the matte highlighters underneath my eyes, on the bridge of my nose and on top of my cheekbones, forehead and chin. If I feel like I want and even glowier look I apply some shimmering highlighter (usually the Mary-Lou manizer by the Balm) on my cheekbones, nose and brow bone.

Current fashion obsession: the striped pants

I've always loved patterned pants, and my current obsession are the ones with stripes. Lately my style has become more monochromatic, and I'm constantly dreaming of a pair of black and white, loose fitting trousers. I love how they've styled them with loose tops and sandals on the upper left picture. What do you think?

A Backpacker's Guide to Backpacking

Since coming home I've been asked lots of questions from family, friends and now blog readers about what it's like to travel for such a long period of time. What do you need to bring with you? How much money do you need? Well, this post contains the answers to all your questions!

How did you save enough money for your trip?
I started working at a fast food restaurant called Max about two months after I graduated. Knowing I would have to save up as much money as possible I worked day and night to reach my goal. It was hard, but I made it in the end which was all that mattered! It took me about five and a half months to save enough money to take me to the other side of the globe.

How much money do you need?
This is one of the most commonly asked questions, and the hardest one to answer since it differs from person to person how much money you want to spend. Me and my two friends had all agreed that we would live on quite a tight budget. No fancy hotels, cheap food and only window shopping. People told us it would be both hard and boring, but I totally disagree! Why spend money on a private room at a hotel when you don't spend time in your room anyways? Sleeping in a dorm is the best way to meet new people! And who says cheap food has to taste bad? We did do some shopping though, but only using the money we saved up from eating so cheap in New Zealand... Without counting in the flight tickets to New Zealand and from Bali to Sweden I spent about 47 000 kr (roughly £4000). Minus the money I used for flight tickets between the countries and you're left with roughly 400 kr/£34 a day. For us that was perfect! Some days you spend more and some days less!

What did you eat?
Backpackers will tell you that the only things we eat are noodles and pizza from Dominos (the $6 backpacker deal is amazing), but that's not really true. As long as you spend your money wisely, you can eat both delicious and healthy food! I travelled with one vegetarian and one vegan, so we didn't spend lots of money on meat, which made everything so much cheaper. We had oatmeal with cinnamon, bananas and dates every single morning. Super yummy and kept us going for hours! For lunch we usually had salad with beans or chickpeas (I can totally advise you all to buy a lunchbox so that you can bring your lunch to the beach). Dinner in New Zealand was canned soup and bread every single evening, the perfect dinner if you live in a camper van and have only one small stove to cook on. In Australia we got a bit more creative though. Pasta, stir fry and our favourite: rice with a curry made from coconut milk, lentils, spinach and mushrooms!
Bali was of course very different, since it's cheaper to eat out than buy food at the supermarket (and there were not really any supermarkets anyways so...)

What are some essentials you have to pack?
It of course depends on where you're going and if what time of year it is, but if you're going on the kind of trip that I did then I would recommend you to bring the following:
- Four pair of shoes: trainers for trekking, sneakers for every day use, sandals for when it's too hot or when you're going out clubbing (some places will not let you in if you wear sneakers) and flip flops. Perfect to wear when going to the beach or in the hostel toilets and showers.
- A fleece and a rain jacket (because if you're going to a place like New Zealand, the weather can be super hot in one place and freezing two hours away).
- Packing bags! Makes your bag more organised and you'll find what you're looking for without making a mess.
- Camera
- A smaller backpack for day trips (I brought the classic Scandinavian-going-backpacking-bag: Kånken from Fjällräven. Made me feel like a true Viking!)
- Microfiber towel (dries super quick and takes up minimal space in your bag)
- SPF 50!
- A separate beach towel/sarong
- A diary

Travelling with friends or travelling solo?
I would absolutely recommend travelling with someone! Force a good friend from home to join you on your adventures or befriend someone at a hostel. Either you know each other from home or you get to know each other as you go. I started off with two friends from home and spent the last two weeks in Bali with a girl from Denmark I met in Australia. I'm a people person and love having someone with me, so for me travelling solo was never an option. It all depends on who you are and what you prefer!

Any advice to someone who wants to go backpacking?
- Talk to people! The worst thing that can happen is that you don't like them, and then you can just leave.
- Join the organised activities that your hostel offers. It's a great opportunity to meet new people!
- Don't worry, if you're lost or don't know what to do, just ask someone. 99.9% of people are nice and willing to help.
- Don't be that person who organises a pre party in the dorm after 10pm. Everyone will hate you! Unless the entire dorm is going out, then be that person!
- There are not really that many spiders in Australia. And drop-bears are a myth, don't get fooled.
- If no one's swimming, you probably shouldn't either...
- Enjoy your travels! Time flies by when you're having fun and you'll find yourself on a plane back home way too soon.
- Remember that if you're feeling home sick, you'll feel just as travel sick when you're back home!

Best Face Forward!

My current every day facial wash is the Best Face Forward from Formula 10.0.6. It makes for a refreshing final step in my morning and night cleansing ritual and the scent of passion fruit and green tea makes it even better.

I've always had to cope with sensitive skin. I easily get breakouts and pores and they always leave a mark on my skin for weeks after they've been popped. This cleanser though has made my skin feel so much better. I've heard both good and bad things about this brand, but after trying this one I can really recommend it. As long as the other products keep up with this one, I'm satisfied!

5 Things I Learned Whilst Traveling

1. Money can buy happiness
I used to think that money can't buy happiness. Happiness is a feeling, something that's controlled by our bodies and its surroundings. But standing in ankle deep water on a beach in Bali, it occurred to me that money (combined with strong will) was the only thing that had taken me here. I don't believe that money is the only way to happiness, but if you love traveling like me, money sure helps.

2. To value the simple life
Waking up in the morning in a car, eating breakfast in front of the mountains with two friends and the birds above as your only company. Driving for hours in the rain, good music and great conversation. I realised as time went by, that the moments i valued the most were the days when we did nothing and still experienced everything.

3. New friends are lurking behind every corner
Even though I've red tons of travel blogs and heard stories from friends of the people you meet whilst traveling, I never really believed in the "friendship at first sight" thing. If I only knew how wrong I was going to be. I'm now lucky to call myself someone who has friends all over the world. Don't worry! You will always find people you like when you least expect it!
4. A tan is the solution to all your problems
Almost anyways... Wintertime is the time when I feel most conscious about my body in general. I tend to think more about how I dress and to wear the best, full-cover foundation I have. But as the sun hit my skin and turned it more tanned for every day, I slowly started to relax. It's weird how a good tan can make you forget about your insecurities and just relax!

5. Good shoes will save your day
I'm probably not the only backpacker out there who used to live in my flip flops. Even though they made me feel like a true Australian, I soon realised that they did nothing positive for my feet. It's never too late to treat your feet, and so I spent what felt like a fortune on a pair of Birkenstock's! Fashionable and foot-friendly!
